Do what thou wilt.
We are all restricted in our lives. The morals of previous generations have dictated our lives for far too long. Stand up for yourselves! I'm sure there are many things that we have all wanted in our lives that have been deemed "immoral" or "illegal". I'm not saying to act on pure impulse. It is always intelligent to think things over first, but to act on others' morals instead of your own is not and cannot be a fun way to live. This ruins much of our potential. In my opinion, we should live our lives to their full potential. We shouldn't live our lives while constricted to other's beliefs or morals. Many people think that the American rules are the final answer. But just remember, much, much more is legal in Amsterdam.
Much of this is subconscious. Many of us, after indulging in a particular fantasy, immediately repress it, thinking that it is either impossible or below them. This is a conditioned response that should be stopped. There are many ways to do this. Some of them include the use of psychedelic plants. Some of them use yoga. Some of them use psychotherapy. There is always a way to override reflex. This is to simply substitute it with another. Even our own country's military does this. Basic Training is the perfect brainwashing - you place someone in a hostile environment where failure often means punishment. The human mind does adapt.
Don't just take my word for it. Go out and experiment with it. Place yourself in potentially hostile (but not life-threatening) situations. See how quickly reflex can take over. If you find yourself in more and more hostile situations, those reflexes adapt to seeing those situations and avoiding them before they become hostile.
This brings me to another point.
We all live in our own little worlds, and we all see the universe differently. While becoming fit for society, specific reflexes are embedded in our minds. The first of which is to advance upon positive things, and get the hell away from harmful things. People imprint these differently, though - especially the ones that come later. This leads to everyone's "personality". The series of these imprints builds up until you are created.
You should take this into account while socializing with people. Not everyone will see x as you see it. In fact, some may even see y. One way to overcome these social barriers is to analyze people. One of the broadest generalizations is to recognize if the person is dominant or submissive. (Editorial note: try observing people in cafes. Each conversation will have one dominant person - usually leaning back - and each will have submissive persons - usually leaning forward. Watch the body language for clues.) Another is whether SHe is emotional or logical. This will immediately tell you more about the person and how to deal with hir.
Beliefs, however, are the death of humanity. When a person believes in something, they know how it is. SHe knows what's going on. If a person believes in everything, they know everything. Therefore, SHe stops thinking about everything, because SHe knows everything. If you stop thinking, your brainwaves cease, proving clinical death. This is a gross overstatemeant, but theoretically, it's possible. Believe nothing. It's much more healthy to have ideas or opinions. This way, it's much easier to adapt (and survive). People also kill each other over their beliefs. They believe that everyone should follow their beliefs and they enforce this through violence.
I leave you with this: don't adhere to petty restrictions placed upon you. Think for yourself and live with peace, love, and joy.
