To define what discordianism is in a modern context we must first go to the roots of Discordianism. When the first _Principa Discordia_ was printed, several key ideals were on the fringe of society already. Firstly a female deity was on the verge of being evil, and a religion that preached nonsense as salvation made, well, no sense. Originally meant as a rebellious shocker for the masses, the _Principa Discordia_ has since then evolved into something much greater. With the works by Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea, along with the writings of many fellow Discordians, the _Principa Discordia_ and therefore Discordianism itself has spread to all corners of the globe and has certainly grown a life of its own. Discordianism is hard to define. The explanation for this is because Discordianism should be an individual experience. The House of the Kiwi defines Discordianism as the finding of true balance in the universe. Such as Discordianism preaches nonsense it at the same time preaches sense. This is explained by the fact that you can't have sense without nonsense, just like you can't have light without dark, and good without evil. Everything is necessary. This belief has the benefit of allowing, and even almost requiring, the worship of everything for what it is. Racism and hate don't exist, and nothing is revered more than anything else, leading to true equality. Many people don't see Discordianism as a serious religion. It isn't. Discordianism is for people who don't mind making fun of themselves. Discordianism can be taken seriously; don't get me wrong, it is a very fulfilling religion. Discordianism allows for any view or belief to be taken, and respected.
