A few people have wondered why there are no discussion forums here, and the more visitors we get, the more that question pops up. I figure I'll answer it here once and for all.

There are no discussion boards on this site and in fact it is unlikely that there will be any. Saint Mae feels that there are a huge number of Discordian forums out there already, and that adding one more to the mix would be a waste of time, energy, and server space. Most of these are very well done, and the signal to noise ratio is no worse than you see anywhere else.

For those seeking out discussion forums, Saint Mae reccomends you check out the ones linked here:

alt.discordia - Usenet news, large signal to noise ratio, but lots of really cool people.

Barbelith Underground, general forums.

Irreality Forums, mostly occult forums, including chaos magic(k) and Discordian magi.

Illuminatus Inner Sanctum Yahoo Group - a large public Discordian club, this one is probably the most active of the Yahoo Discordian clubs. High signal to noise ratio, but everyone is really cool and there's no spam like usenet.

Space Monkey Mafia Yahoo Club - a smaller, more community-based club. Most of the postings are still banter, but the people are really great. You can find Saint Mae and several other members of Discordian.com posting here (as well as IIS above). Both this club and IIS above are often recruitment grounds for smaller, more focused invitation-only discussion forums.

There is now a San Francisco Bay Area Discordians mailing list. This is not a discussion list - it is a listing of events and other bay area information for local Discordians - a local cabal network. If you are interested in joining this list, please email St. Mae and she'll add you to the Topica list. We have 23 people as of May 10th '01!

Upcomming Events in the San Francisco Area:

5/23/2003:
While not a holiday on the Discordian calendar, Five-Twenty-Three has so much Discordian numerological importance that St. Mae decided to celebrate it as one of the High Holee Days. This year will be St. Mae's Fifth Annual Five-Twenty-Three Celebration. Not sure what all will be going on, more info to come closer to the actual date.

6/27-6/29/2003:
Yes, there will be a KallistiCon this year. Come to San Francisco to meet other Discordians from all over the world. There will be parties and picnics and crazy day trips and a chaos ritual and a bunch of completely amazing Discordians. If you take only one vacation this year, come to KallistiCon. This will be the third annual gathering. Please please please RSVP reliably (even if it's last minute, we need to know that you're comming at least a week in advance), since there is a huge difference between planning for 23 or planning for 13. As of February 23, 2003, the KallistiCon site hasn't yet been updated. It will be, I promise.

Past Noteworthy Events:

6/22-6/24/2001:
Kallisticon: A Discordian (un)Convention was Saint Mae's first annual international Discordian gathering. Of the 23 who promised to attend, only 13 actually made it. Nevertheless, the 13 of us had a great time. We went to a weird art party, had a picnic in the park, held a chaos ritual, visited the grave of Emperor Norton, and went to a trippy science museum. Check out the photos of what you missed at the above link.

Don't live near San Francsisco, but want to hook up with other local Discordians? Why not host a game of Sink, or a costumed prank, or just a good get-together-and-drink event? Send your event listing to editor@discordian.com, and if it's the sort of thing we can endorse, we'll post it here.
